Clarence Jackson
IESA degree obtained and graduation year:
May of 2023 with a Bachelor's degree with a certificate in Geospatial Intelligence and Geographic Information Systems.
What is your current professional title?
GIS Technician
Since graduating from 91福利导航’s IESA, what are you doing professionally (describe the organization you are with and your associated role)?
I am currently working with Hall County Government in the Tax Assessors Office. I am one of the two GIS techs who help create property parcels for subdivisions or homes being built. I also help maintain data integrity through DEED research ensuring that they are correct before being transferred over for the next tax year. Helping the people of Hall County with any issues combining, splitting, or selling pieces of their properties as well. All the work that is done is updated overnight into a system called Qpublic for the public to see.
What things or experiences in IESA do/did you value the most?
I valued my connections with my professors and faculty. Having them was the biggest help in my college career. I mean they pushed me out of my comfort zone to help me develop my network and meet other like-minded individuals. I also enjoyed being the Vice and former President of the Geospatial Alliance Club.
What advice would you give a current IESA student?
I would say work on your craft, take time out of classes, and learn other things that aren't discussed in class. Do internships because interviewers will see it and ask you about the experience you gained there. Try and network as much as possible to meet other like-minded people you never know when they may have an opportunity and your name comes to mind. You can start with your professors they have a lot of experience.
What strengths would you most value if hiring a recent graduate?
Strengths are Communicating professionally, being level-headed, having strong computer skills, and being knowledgable about GIS topics and software. Know about basic excel functions and Microsoft suite experience. A fast learner and someone willing to admit when they need help.
