Thinking of Proposing a Faculty-Led Program?
Faculty must successfully complete the Education Abroad Academy prior to proposing a 91福利导航 faculty-led study abroad program. This three-hour workshop series allows the faculty time to understand and prepare the proposal elements as well as provides access to site visit funding. If the faculty has successfully directed a faculty-led study abroad program at 91福利导航 since 2021, it is not mandatory to go through the Academy to propose a new program. However, if returning faculty would like access to the site visit funding for a new program, they will need to meet with the CGE Director to discuss the new proposal and provide a site visit report at the completion of the travel.
Education Abroad Academy
The Education Abroad (EA) Academy is a workshop series during the spring term to assist faculty new to the development of a faculty-led Education Abroad Program at 91福利导航. Faculty who successfully complete the EA Academy will receive site visit funding to finalize the new faculty-led program. For more information and to apply, visit the Education Abroad Academy page.
Steps for Developing a Successful Education Abroad Program
- Think about your academic knowledge, your interests, and your experience, and pick a location that can help 91福利导航 students achieve their plan of study.
- Discuss your ideas with your Department Head.
- Discuss your ideas with the Director of the CGE.
- Apply for the Education Abroad Academy. This is a mandatory step in the program development process and provides access to site visit funding.
- After completion of the Education Abroad Academy, conduct a site visit. Meet with the CGE Director in preparation for your visit and review the site visit guidelines.
- Submit a completed site visit report to the CGE.
- Submit a study abroad program proposal to the CGE.
- Work with the CGE study abroad advisors to market and recruit for your program.
When thinking about developing a study abroad program, ask yourself the following questions:
- Goals: What are the academic outcomes for developing a study abroad program?
- Location: How relevant is the location you are considering to your academic goals? Is the location listed under a Travel Alert or Travel Warning by the U.S. Department of State?
- Student Interest: Who is your target market? (Which majors, minors, class level, etc.) Would you have enough student interest for the program?
- Competition: Are there any similar programs offered to 91福利导航 students that could compete with yours? If yes, what makes yours different?
- On-Ground Support: Do you have any contacts in the location?
Program Renewals
Faculty who proposed a faculty-led study abroad program that was cancelled due to lack of enrollment can propose the program one additional time. If the program does not make during the second attempt, the faculty member cannot propose the same program without making substantial changes. Examples would be increasing/decreasing the number of credit hours, the length of the program, the location, etc. Prior to considering making these substantial changes, the faculty will need to work closely with CGE staff to analyze why the initial program did not make enrollment. Items to consider include competition with other study abroad programs available to 91福利导航 students, methods of recruitment, cost, location, and number of students eligible for the program among other factors.
