A Typical Weekday
Time | Activity |
---|---|
5:45 a.m. |
Workout - Optional for athletes and fitness fanatics. |
7:00 a.m. |
Breakfast - Get your made-to-order omelet, biscuits and gravy, or cereal. Remember to hydrate! |
8:00 a.m. |
Academic Sessions - Attend courses such as "Criminals and the Death Penalty" (Criminal Justice), "The Social Register" (Sociology), "Gross Anatomy" (Physical Therapy), "Jungian Archetypal Analysis" (Psychology), "Citizens and Politics (Political Science) or "Neuroscience" (Psychology). Other offerings in the past have included Marine Biology, Genghis Khan, and Drawing 101 (Art). |
9:30 a.m. |
College Writing Course - After the first break, work with a college writing professor and have two of your essays graded as though they were submitted for an honors section of Composition 101 at a typical college in Georgia. Learn your strengths and weaknesses as a writer from a professor who teaches these courses. |
10:45 a.m. |
Leadership Discussion - After the second break, attend a discussion where you and your peers learn your individual leadership styles, the strengths and weaknesses associated with that style, and get practical advice on common leadership struggles. More than 80% of our leadership curriculum is adventure learning on the ropes course or Mt. Yonah, but classroom discussions provide a framework for learning leadership. |
noon |
Lunch - Stations in the Dining Hall include the comfort food line, salad bar, pizza and desserts. Sandwich fixings and cereal are available. Be sure to hydrate! |
1:15 p.m. |
Pine Valley - Load onto the Nighthawk shuttles for the ten minute ride to Pine Valley, a recreation area owned by the University of North Georgia that houses our high and low ropes adventure courses and the Leadership Reaction Course. Bring a backpack to store your water bottle, sunglasses, cell phone, sunscreen, ball cap, sunglasses and bug spray. We have water coolers available on site for water bottle refills. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. |
5:00 p.m. |
Return to Campus - Load up the shuttles and return to the dorm to rest, enjoy some air conditioning, and clean up for dinner. Some days, we have only two activity periods so that we can return to campus by 4:00 p.m. This allows time to visit historic downtown Dahlonega, visit the Fudge Factory or Connie's Ice Cream Parlor and even eat at one of the local restaurants (optional). |
6:00 p.m. |
Dinner - Our Dining Hall has Powerade and other good hydration options, plus all your favorite Coke and Pepsi products. Be sure to check out the soft serve ice cream, a real crowd pleaser after four hours outside on the challenge course or a day of hiking and climbing at Mt. Yonah. |
7:00 p.m. |
After-Dinner Activities - Activities may include: Quiz Bowls, Essay Contests, Ultimate Frisbee, Jeopardy, Volleyball Tournament, Capture the Flag, trips to the 91福利导航 Observatory and Planetarium shows. |
8:30 p.m. |
Free Time - Hang out in the dorm, or walk to Dairy Queen after a long, hot day in the sun. When it's raining, we try to run a shuttle so you can get back to campus safe and dry. Students may enjoy the outdoors near our dorm or play ping pong, shoot pool or play cards with your friends in the dorm day room. |
9:30 p.m. |
Quiet Time - You don't have to go to bed yet, but we make sure the dorm hallways are quiet so that anyone who does want to sleep can do so. |
10:00 p.m. |
Lights Out - The lights out time varies depending on activities but is typically around 10 p.m., after which campers must be in their dorm rooms and reasonably quiet. |
